As the final homes on Bonchurch Road near completion, we can see a new London street emerging. We have a number of initiatives underway, over the coming months, to mark this important milestone.
On Sunday 26 June local residents will be invited to a street fete on Bonchurch Road, this free fun-packed event will feature childrens and adults interactive activities, information stalls, and live performances. More information on the confirmed line-up for the day will be publicised closer to the time.
Last month we had a photographer on site at Bonchurch Road taking portraits of key people involved in the project as well as some of the residents of the new homes and local businesses. These photographs are for inclusion in a commemorative coffee table book, which will also feature a large section on the history of the immediate area.
Although the book will have a limited print run and will not be available to buy, we will ensure that a copy is available at the street fete and at the Catalyst Office, 314b Ladbroke Grove – to give residents the chance to have a look.
In addition to the street fete and commemorative book, Bonchurch Road will be featured in an exhibition about what it takes to create a successful street. The exhibition runs from 16 June to 15 July at the Building Centre on Store Street (off Tottenham Court Road) and ties in with the London Festival of Architecture. There will be a supporting programme of talks and walks. See the Building Centre’s website for details, www.buildingcentre.co.uk.
A short film is currently being created on the theme of ‘the creation of a London street for the 21st Century’ and this will be played at the exhibition. The video will be available on the Here & Now website after the event.
