Athlone Gardens will be changing shape next year as part of the regeneration project. The park will be redesigned and will be larger, as it will incorporate space currently occupied by Wheatstone House.
To inform this next stage the council has consulted people about the proposed design for the park. This has been via a dedicated questionnaire, filled out either online or on paper, or during consultation sessions held in the park. Many thanks to all those who completed the questionnaire and shared their views.
Athlone Gardens will stay in this ‘temporary’ phase while the buildings around it are redeveloped. By about 2022, Portobello Square will be complete and the park will enter its final stage – this time it will double in size, stretching between Portobello Road and Wornington Road.
This probably seems like a long way off, but eventually Athlone Gardens will become a great new park for people in this part of Kensington. In the meantime, we hope to have your continued support in the development of the next phase, which will provide space for residents to walk, play, meet friends, or just take time out from a busy day.
If you have any questions regarding the consultation contact RBKC on 020 7341 5166.
