Update from NewmanFrancis

Phase 1 of the new development is well underway and many residents have now moved into the new properties. Most seem happy with their new homes and residents seem more positive now about the changes that are taking place. But what do you think about it all? The NewmanFrancis ITA Service would like to hear about your experiences! The last few weeks have been a busy time for the ITA Service. There are a number of strands to the service we provide.

We provide support to the Residents’ Steering Group (RSG), organise public meetings for residents, outreach work on the estate, independent advice, newsletters and information as well as training for residents.

Our aim is for the service to reach as many residents as possible which is why one afternoon at the end of April we organised our first Women’s Meeting at the Venture Centre.

The Women’s Meeting was aimed at residents who might find it difficult to attend the evening meetings. The meeting was supported by the Al-Hasaniya Morocccan Women’s Project based at Trellick Tower. As well as a nice lunch, we provided information about the regeneration and there were also opportunities for residents to get their questions answered and also voice their concerns. “Very friendly, a lovely atmosphere”, as one resident said. We plan to build on this and hold further women’s meetings in the future.

We are already preparing for the July Residents’ Public Meeting which will be themed around the External Environment on the new development. If you’ve never been to a Residents’ Meeting before, do come along, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the quality of information and debate on offer. Also in July we’ll be carrying out our annual Residents’ Survey. The information you give us helps us improve our service, so look out for us out and about on Wornington Green.

None of our work would be possible without the support of the Residents’ Steering Group. We work closely together so that local people stay actively involved in the future of the area. The RSG is a constituted group and represents and acts on behalf of the wider community. The RSG also represents a wide variety of views about the regeneration and is not afraid to hold Catalyst to account when it feels it is necessary. We will be telling you more about who’s on the RSG and writing more about the work the group does in the next edition of Here & Now.

We’ll be out and about on Wornington Green on the following dates:

Thursday 26 June from 2pm – 5pm
Thursday 24 July from 3pm – 6pm
Wednesday 30 July from 2pm – 5pm

Upcoming Residents’ Meeting:

Thursday 31 July – Residents’ Public Meeting, 6pm – 7.30pm, Venture Centre

Theme: The External Environment on the New Development – open spaces and landscaping, Athlone Gardens and the Venture Centre, traffic management, new street layouts and parking. Enjoy the rest of the Summer and see you soon!
