We’re excited to announce that we have recruited and trained a group of local residents to be volunteer Walk Leaders for our new Portobello Walks – regular walks for people to socialise, improve their health and explore the area together.
Six Catalyst residents and two Catalyst community workers attended an informative Walk Leader training day on Saturday 22 February, put on as part of the national Walking for Health scheme. Everyone learnt what a Walk Leader’s role is, what the benefits of regular walking are and what’s required to organise and run a fun, friendly and safe walk. All this was put in to practice when the group went on a sunny practice walk in Little Wormwood Scrubs.
One attendee said, “The training was great. Portobello Walks is just what we need in the area. It’ll get people out to socialise and it’ll be good for peoples’ health”.
The leaders can’t wait to get started and are looking forward to organising and leading regular walks around North Kensington that are open to all. We will be advertising a programme of regular walks on posters, in articles, at events and more, so keep an eye out. If you prefer, you can also contact us with your details and we will be in touch to let you know the dates and times of upcoming walks.
