We are setting up a new walking group called Portobello Walks.
The weekly walks will be led by our residents and open to anyone who wants to be active, meet people and learn more about our fantastic area. It will also be a great way for newcomers to the area to get to know it better and learn the stories behind some of the landmarks.
Whether you are an experienced walker or haven’t walked in a while we want you to get involved either with the planning of the walking routes or to lead the walks themselves.
We are organising free training for Wornington Green residents who would like to be either volunteer Walk Leaders or volunteer Walk Assistants. Walk Leaders will check routes, welcome and brief walkers and lead the walks. Walk Assistants will support the leaders in these duties and will talk to the walkers about the area, its geography and culture.
We are looking for friendly, reliable individuals who know the area well to take on these roles. Don’t worry, the roles are straightforward and you will be given plenty of support. This is a great opportunity to share your local knowledge, develop your skills and more importantly, to stay active and have fun.
If you are interested in being a Walk Leader or Assistant, or want to help us design the routes then please come to our open day at the Venture Centre on 6 November, 1.30pm to 3pm. Alternatively, you can contact Leigh Gravenor on either 020 8964 6433 or 07525904253.
