The Community Champions programme is a long established health and wellbeing project based at the Venture Centre. The Golborne Community Champions project focuses on the wellbeing of residents on Wornington Green and Swinbrook Estates and is overseen by our new Community Champions Manager Martyn Chessman.
The aim of this project is to achieve a healthy, happy Golborne through delivering health and wellbeing messages to our family, friends and neighbours.
All our Champions receive considerable training, such as Level 2 Award in Understanding Health Improvement, Understanding Behaviour Change, Food Hygiene level 2, Mental Health and First Aid.
This is also a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to add to their CV, make new friends and give back to a wonderful community. As a Champion you can volunteer as little or as much time as you can, there are no special requirements or experience needed.
We are pleased to announce that the Maternity Champions programme has now come to Kensington and Chelsea. It is situated across the four Community Champions hubs of Venture Centre, Dalgarno, Notting Dale and Chelsea Theatre. The hubs have recruited an amazing team of local people to provide support for expectant and new parents through pregnancy and the transition into parenthood.
The Maternity Champions Manager, Michelle Poponne, and Community Champions leads, have worked hard to recruit and train Maternity Champions and begin developing relevant activities. Currently across the borough we have buggy walks, MEND Mums (exercise and nutrition sessions with your baby), yoga for pre and post pregnancy, signposting and support at GP baby weigh in and Children’s Health for Life workshops delivered by Doctors from Imperial Trust.
All Maternity Champions receive extensive OCN-accredited training from the NCT – Birth and Beyond Community Supporter (BBCS) and, where applicable, Breast Feeding Peer Supporter (BFPS) training; as well as safeguarding up to level 3, and perinatal mental health.
If you are interested in becoming either a Community or Maternity Champion you can contact firstname.lastname@example.org or contact the Venture Centre on 0208 960 3234 to find out more details.
