My name is Karina Skinner, Chair of Wornington Green Residents’ Steering Group (RSG). I have lived on Wornington Green for several years and am very passionate about my community.
The RSG’s role is to ensure that Catalyst keep to the promises made to their tenants in the Residents’ Charter produced in March 2011. This ensures that residents are kept up to date with any changes and are involved in the design of the new development. Lessons are learnt from each phase which in turn are used to improve the overall outcome of the new and improved homes. It is important that we as residents make sure that Catalyst maintain and look after the ‘old’ blocks while building new homes.
The RSG consists of residents living on Wornington Green and Portobello Square. They are supported by our independent tenant advisors (ITA). On a monthly basis the RSG committee meet and discuss a variety of topics relating to the redevelopment of Wornington Green. Quarterly public meetings are held throughout the year to allow the wider community to find out the latest update on the regeneration and raise issues that are of concern. The RSG can invite Catalyst officers and/or the architects to discuss different issues at the meetings and also look at how Catalyst is communicating.
This year the public meetings have focused on Bond Mansions (Phase 2a) and the lessons learnt from Phase 1. The architects, Conran & Partners, were in attendance to learn first-hand from residents what the issues were, their likes and dislikes. The second public meeting looked at security and anti-social behaviour on Wornington Green. The meeting was attended by a representative of Golborne ward local police and a Catalyst ASB Manager. The public meeting in July focused on Phase 3 and the consultation plan in the lead up to Catalyst submitting a detailed planning application as well as residents’ concerns around the Carnival. The meetings are well attended and we would like to encourage more residents to attend. The next meeting will take place at the beginning of next year. Information about the meeting will be sent out nearer the time.
