United Living’s employment and skills plan

Early this year, United Living will roll out an employment and skills plan for the construction of Bond Mansions.

United Living’s community engagement team will work with Catalyst, local agencies and the community to gain a deeper understanding of local people’s employment needs. They’ll then develop a draft plan in conjunction with Joe Brennan Training, an organisation which runs apprentice training and employment support programmes. The programme will be tailored to provide local opportunities that meet local needs. The plan will include employment opportunities, apprenticeships and training, work experience and a pre-employment initiative.

Employment opportunities

United Living seek to engage local sub-contractors and suppliers. This brings local knowledge to the project, and reduces its carbon footprint by minimising travel.

Apprenticeships and training

United Living are committed to delivering ten apprenticeships at Level 2. Wornington Green and Portobello Square residents will have first priority, followed by Catalyst and RBKC residents, and then by adjacent London boroughs. They also work with their subcontractors and supply chain to provide further apprenticeship opportunities.

United into Construction

This is United Living’s pre-employment initiative. It provides local people who are not in employment with a structured pathway into construction. It includes workshops, work experience, a minimum of eight certified training courses, CV mentoring, interview training and more.

Work experience

United Living offer work experience placements on their sites and in their offices, providing first-hand experience of what it’s like to work in a range of roles.
