An important part of life at Wornington Green, the Venture Centre offers people of all ages and cultures the chance to learn, try new activities, get help and advice, improve their fitness and catch up with friends at social events. Even if you’ve never visited, chances are you’ll know someone that has.
Catalyst has agreed a four-year funding package with the Venture Centre to enable the delivery of a programme of activities that create opportunities for local children to learn, achieve and thrive. But our work goes much further than funding; it’s very much a partnership with our staff working closely with Venture Centre staff to develop projects and ultimately ensure they meet the needs of local people. Projects to be funded in the first year are:
After School Homework Club
– a dedicated space to get homework done with access to computers and support from qualified staff and volunteers. Free weekly term-time support sessions will run on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4.30pm – 6pm.
Healthy Meals Programme
– healthy meals provided daily along with regular workshops to show young people how much fun cooking can be and, by involving them in preparing and cooking their own meals, encourage them to try new foods and make healthier choices.
Notting Hill Kids Carnival
– local children design and make their own carnival costumes and take part in a carnival procession through their local neighbourhood.
– back to basics residential camp for local children, particularly those who may have little or no experience of life outside an urban environment.
