We are gearing up for Phase 2 and putting the key elements in place for the next exciting stage of the regeneration.
Our main priority at this stage is appointing a contractor for Phase 2. Over the next few months we are going through a competitive procurement stage for a new contractor. In our ongoing commitment to the Residents’ Charter we have consulted the Residents’ Steering Group (RSG) in this process. The RSG has the opportunity to nominate two candidates from the group who will be involved in the selection process.
Demolition of Edward Kennedy, 65-96 Pepler houses and 192 and 194 Wornington Road is likely to begin in the Summer in preparation for the construction of Bond Mansions. Bond Mansions will be the most complicated part of Phase 2 because it occupies a narrow space, has reduced access and is near the railway. The architecture of the finished building will be particularly impressive and will reflect some of the design involvement from residents.
As highlighted in the last issue, we propose to demolish Wells and Murchison Houses earlier than initially planned and our target date for demolition is scheduled for later in the year. This earlier demolition will assist us with traffic management and site access for construction of Bond Mansions.
