The last three months have seen considerable progress with the regeneration.
36 households from Wornington Green have moved into new homes on Faraday Road. Some of the residents of these new homes are from Wheatstone House and the remaining section of Telford House. Once the last residents have moved into their new homes the demolition of these two buildings will begin. The space left behind will form part of the new park.
We have reinstated the grass following the removal of the crane.
New electrical connections to the market traders’ lock-ups have been installed. Paving outside the lock-ups is now complete and a railing has been installed. A change in the level at the corner of Munro Mews and Wornington Road is also now finished.
The building facing onto Portobello Road is progressing well. In the last three months the foundations have been laid and the concrete frame hints at the shape of the final buildings.
By next spring, Bonchurch Road and Faraday Road, the street running along one side of the new park, will both be finished. Preparations are underway to start construction of Phase 2. We are working closely with residents of Edward Kennedy House, and 65 to 96 Pepler House to rehouse them so demolition can begin to make way for the first building in Phase 2.
The rehousing of residents in numbers 65 to 72 Pepler has been brought forward following detailed surveys to plan for the building on that site. We’ve been surveying empty properties to plan for their demolition.
We are working with our quantity surveyors to draw up detailed plans and arrangements for site access, traffic management, etc. These plans will be published shortly.
