Catalyst Gateway and our construction contractors, Ardmore, recently held an Apprenticeship Registration Day.
During the event, which was held on Friday 14 March at the Venture Centre, Ardmore registered residents to undertake paid apprenticeships during the ongoing redevelopment of Wornington Green.
Following the registration event, Ardmore will appoint three new apprentices who will work on the redevelopment. Current apprentices have already benefitted from the support of Ardmore and Catalyst Gateway who contributed funding to help apprentices purchase their own tools.
Ardmore has also confirmed that they are offering paid training opportunities for long-term unemployed and older residents.
No previous construction or building experience is required and the training, which will last for six months, will be fully funded by Catalyst Gateway.
During training, participants will be offered real work experience–perhaps as traffic marshalls and banksmen (the person who directs the operation of a crane or larger vehicle) or in skilled trades.
They will also be supported in order to obtain Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards prior to starting work onsite.
Eillish Kwai, Ardmore’s skills and employment manager said: “Apart from the new and improved housing Ardmore is delivering to the area, we are eager to give something back to the local residents and the community so we’re really pleased to be able to offer these new training opportunities for long-term unemployed and older residents.
The trainees will really benefit from working alongside Ardmore’s health and safety officer, site managers and supervisors.
Our training could certainly kick-start a career working in construction.”
