Helping Older Residents

KHT is currently working on a project with Age Concern to address the needs of older residents on Wornington Green.

The KHT Community Fund has provided the funding for a community outreach worker employed by Age Concern to provide support to older residents living on the estate and increase access to local services and activities.

The first task of Age Concern will be to work with KHT staff to identify all the older residents on the estate and, in particular, those most vulnerable. Over the next few weeks a door-to-door survey will be carried out to find out older people’s needs. The staff carrying out the survey will have photo identification so residents will know exactly who they are. A letter will also be going out to let people know when exactly the survey will be taking place.

When the survey is completed we will look at what it tells us about older people’s needs and we will then put together a plan of action. This plan will be overseen by a steering group that will include KHT Community Fund trustee, Keith Stirling. As many of you will know, Keith is not only a resident of Wornington Green but also a long term fundraiser for Age Concern.

The community outreach worker will also organise activities and events and will develop initiatives to encourage local residents to volunteer to help in their local community.
