Update on moves

The first residents moved into their new homes on Monday 18 March and we currently have 28 households living in the new development, which includes our first returnee from Munro Mews (see Spotlight article for a special feature on Stella!).

A lot of planning went into our move schedule to ensure that no one was left alone on a floor in the new development or left isolated in Faraday House. Our Housing and Regeneration Co-ordinators (Lilah, Liza, Mary and Mushtaq) worked closely with our Removal Company and Ardmore to support residents on their move day, to make the moves as smooth as possible. Each resident was given tailored support to meet their needs before, during and after their move. Everyone has now moved from Faraday House and the block has been handed over to Ardmore to prepare for demolition.

We’ve already had great feedback from most people who have told us that they are really pleased with their new homes. Some of the things that people say that they like about their new homes are the floor to ceiling windows and the amount of natural light, the views, the size of the rooms and the video entry system.

Whilst most things have gone really well, together with the new residents we have identified some areas that could be improved:

  • External finish – Ardmore is still waiting for some panels to arrive to fit around balconies and the main entry doors.
  • Phone lines – Residents didn’t have immediate access to a landline when they moved in as they still need to be connected by Open Reach (part of British Telecom). We have been in regular contact with Open Reach to try to speed up the process.
  • Community Heating – We’ve helped residents to programme their heating, reviewed the community heating tariff and got a local shop signed up to Payzone so that residents can top up their credit locally.
  • As you would expect with all new buildings there will always be a few defects. These have been identified since people have moved into their new homes. With Ardmore still on site we’ve been able to get these quickly resolved.

Lilah Haire deals with all tenancy issues for residents in the new development and is in regular contact with individuals to help them to settle into their new homes. Lilah can be contacted at lilah.haire@chg.org.uk or telephone 020 8964 6418.

As we mentioned in the last Here & Now, moves into the new development have been put back due to delays with the construction programme because unfortunately, two window companies that Ardmore was working with went out of business. Ardmore is working with a new window company and good progress is being made. We expect the rest of the block to be occupied between now and September. Over the coming months the Wornington Green Team will be in touch with residents due to move into Block 1 to plan their moves and confirm their move dates.

If you are due to move into Block 1 and have any questions about your move please don’t forget to contact your Housing and Regeneration Co-ordinator. Lilah, Liza, Mary and Mushtaq are available Monday to Friday and are always happy to help.
