The first ever event held by Wornington Green’s new community group took place on Saturday 28 July in the car park opposite Thompson House, and attracted over 100 residents. Residents enjoyed the free barbeque, table tennis and other activities. There were also delicious homemade cakes on sale and the raffle was a huge success – the proceeds from the cup cakes and raffle will go towards funding future activities for residents.
On the day, Terry Oliver, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Environment Manager presented the community kitchen garden plot holders with a certificate to recognise the work that they have put into maintaining the garden and for winning the best strawberry plot in The Brighter Kensington and Chelsea scheme competition.
The event represented an important step with residents working together to take ownership of the activities in their community. An attendee commented “ …the event is fantastic, when is the next one? You should do more of this type of event to bring the community together.”
Wornington Green Community Group would like to extend a huge thank you to the following local organisations and people who have donated prizes for the raffle; Ladbroke Grove Sainsbury’s, DJ News Agent, Mo Better Cutz Barber, Amira Hair & Beauty Salon, Portobello Green Gym, Barnes & Sons Funeral Director, Paula Almedia, Palki Restaurant and Esther Manest Couture.
