Over 50 local residents attended our Employment and Training Day held on 17 May at Kensington and Chelsea College to find out more about jobs and training in construction.
As a result, 15 young residents put themselves forward for a pre apprenticeship programme organised in partnership between Ardmore, Kensington and Chelsea College and Catalyst Gateway’s Employment and Skills Team. All the participants completing the programme will gain a CSCS Construction Safety Card required for construction site work and a qualification in construction skills. They will also be given experience of working on the Wornington Green site.
At the end of the four-week programme, five of the participants will be offered apprenticeships by Ardmore in either plumbing or as an electrician. They will be working on site at Wornington Green from the autumn. Many of the young people are from Wornington Green and as Eillish Kwai, Employment and Skills Manager says: “The young people will not only have the opportunity to become fully qualified tradesmen with Ardmore but the unique opportunity to help to build the homes they may well be moving into!”
