Postal addresses and numbering proposals have been submitted to the Borough for approval based on the existing street names. New buildings in the Borough over six storeys require a name. Block 1 doesn’t need a name but to be consistent we propose to name all three buildings in Phase 1by using the names of authors associated with the area.
For Block 1, we are proposing Orwell House after George Orwell, the author of “Animal Farm” who lived on Portobello Road. For Block 2, we suggest calling it Hudson after the writer William Henry Hudson who lived in the Borough until his death in 1922. For Block 3, we propose using the name Hardy after the great west country author, Thomas Hardy, who wrote classics such as “Far From the Madding Crowd” and “Tess of the d’Urbervilles” and lived for a short time at 9 Wynnstay Gardens which is just off Kensington High Street.
If you have any comments or suggestions to share with us about authors who have lived in the local area for consideration for block naming for Phase 1 or for future phases please contact Patricia Poorman on 020 8964 6433.
